Where’s my Veep Text Message Dude?

The media’s pack of baying wolves have been camped outside the doors of three people for the last 72-hours wondering who is The One? In one of the most extraordinarily disciplined news management efforts of equal parts anticipation and teasing, the families of Indiana’s Evan Bayh, Virginia’s Tim Kaine and Delaware’s Joe Biden are sequestered in a bunker and have seemingly joined the witness protection programs as everything from yogurt selection to fake pizza deliveries to the state of one’s gardening has been shown on telly reducing serious political coverage to paparazzi stakeout moments of great humour.
Every news organisation has named ‘the selected’ as Senator Joe Biden. And… this could be one of the greatest deke fakes of all times because even though every major news organisation thinks they know, fears being scooped by another and has called it for Biden no one knows for certain who will walk onto the stage with Senator Obama Saturday afternoon in Illlinois.
Every possible market segment is looking ahead to this election and the Veepstakes is but one piece of a 70-day election sprint to the finish. In the next five weeks we will see two conventions, three presidential and a vice presidential debate. I even wrote an article for World Poker Tour magazine (to be published in the issue between the two conventions) on the impact each potential Veep pick would have to the world of online gaming. Rumours that Good Housekeeping Magazine in cooperation with CNN, MSNBC and Better Home and Gardens is opening a political desk have not been confirmed. Although Architectural Digest made a splash this week with a reprise of their article and photo spread on the Senator’s Sedona home.
Whilst the trivial gains much traction, a voting machines fraud series continues to sit on a back burner at several places until after the conventions because this year jangling house key rings will replace late former Texas Governor Ann Richards’s famous, “but where was George?” line. And the podium will ring with the “how many houses do you own?” line so that by Thursday we are sick of it all…
So we have about nine hours to go until we know for sure. When the text message does arrive it will be interesting. It’s going to be a very busy week in Denver.
