Nice Big Bucks Conscience Call There Scotty

Amazing what a big publisher’s advance brings. When one starts to imagine the big lecture bucks available on the rubber chicken circuit, it’s no wonder stories change and blend. When the Republican antichrist Bill Clinton earned over $100 million he had to be thinking, “hey, I can do that with the dirt I have gathered.” So shocking the remnants of the Bush/Cheney team, former Bush Press Secretary Scott McClellan emerged from his cocoon yesterday with a book about his years as front man/shill. What Happened has been lighting the blog world afire the last 24 hours.

What a shock to discover he had a conscience after all. Or as one of many rats deserting this sinking ship, will he be railroaded by FOX News, Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity and Ann Coulter as a closet liberal? Or did he just discover like Alan Greenspan and others that there are big bucks to made if one runs against the conventional wisdom by controversially calling a spade a spade?

McClellan pushed back on the war and virtually every major policy initiative singling out Cheney and Rove for his most biting remarks and calling his former boss deceitful. Don’t expect a welcome to Crawford Ranch Scottie. Those wonderful clips when you left where you and W share a lovely moment of mutual respect talking about rocking on chairs on the porch in retirement will not happen anytime soon.

When the Bush team expresses “disappointment” I’d make sure someone tastes your food and do avoid dark alleys in big cities. If someone offers you a drink, remember we Polonium 210 was discovered in this country so I’d pass…

W is a toxic soon-to-be ex president. Not sure I’d jump on him in the midst of a campaign but Barack Obama owes you an Ambassadorship for this gift. This war and presidency are the gift that will keep on giving but yet I still worry about the Dems predilection for snatching defeat from the jaws of victory every time so let’s be careful out there. McCain has serve his country well but the years have takena  toll and this campaign will grind an old man up.

Yesterday John McCain could not wave Bush off quickly enough from the fund-raiser in Phoenix. Get used to the idea that your retirement Mr. Bush is coming very quickly and there are bigger named books and authors still to come. If you are expecting a show of gratitude from a Presidential Pardon to Lewis Libby, Dick Cheney’s former Chief of Staff, he still has big legal bills to pay off.

With the pack calling for war crimes trials for you, Cheney, Rumsfeld and Rove, I’d be very afraid of more than a legacy if I were you.
