Is it over?

Can we come out now and go back to our lives? No? Barack has won but Hillary has not conceded? Aaaaargh! I feel like I did living in LA during the OJ Simpson trial. Will the government offer any counselling or addiction relief therapy to political junkies who will have scant little to do between now and the convention?

I remember the growth of Court TV during the OJ trial and stories of people whose lives revolved around the daily coverage… how gutted they were when it ended. I lived near the site of the Simpson home and visitors were always keen to see his house, her apartment and to drive the route the back way in about 6-minutes when he said it could not be done in less than 20.

Now will we see road trips to United Church of Christ in Chicago for a chance pastor sighting? Will every group of three or more chartered buses mean a candidate motorcade coming through town? Will the Obama kids now get to see more of their Dad around the yard this summer?

Nope. Don’t count on it.

We have five months to go and each newscycle will bring more inter-party warfare. John McCain tried to fight back with a speech last night Louisiana that was so bad CNN and Fox cut-away. Obamania, on the other hand filled the Excel Center in Minneapolis’ 19,000 seats, in what will be McCain’s coronation venue.

That crowd made more noise than the entire Republican convention will in September. Has anyone tried to put a sweater on him to see if he does look like the Mr. Rogers he is apparently trying to emulate with that simpering folksy tone of voice? The kindly Uncle John routine just felt like I was watching a weird uncle who had been rolled out of the closet.

You judge from the YouTube videos below of all three speeches.

And Hillary was her usual defiant although now defeated self so as she waits for something to come slithering out of Obama’s closet or the VP nod, whichever comes first, we can sit and wait and watch? She missed another golden moment to heal the party and kept her defiant dream alive. Oh yeah, I’d want her on my ticket – always worrying and looking over my back for the knife or having someone else taste-test my food.

The ride continues…

McCain Speech
