If It Quacks Like a Lame Duck….

“Put those deck chairs here,” one can imaging President George Bush saying to his Press Secretary this week as this S.S. Titanic of an administration lists steeper and begins to sinks below the water line to its complete demise in 241 days. A fundraiser tonight scheduled in Phoenix where George Bush was to stand beside presumptive GOP nominee John McCain was cancelled due to lack of ticket sales.

Nobody running for office this fall as a Republican wants to be associated with the architect of Iraq and recession. Indeed a veto-proof majority of 74 senators broke ranks and voted for a war funding measure that also included expanded benefits for our troops including tuition benefits that Bush threatened to veto because he feared they would serve their tour and not re-enlist just to get the education benefit. If anyone chooses not to re-enlist it will be because they were lied to and ended up serving 3, 4 or 5 rotations in the war that never ends.

President Bush never met a special interest he didn’t like. Corporations and rich individuals benefiting from his cynical largesse have a day of reckoning coming. Indeed the latest attempt by former aid Karl Rove to claim executive privilege and avoid a Congressional subpoena may see him being arrested and frog-marched in handcuffs from the studios of FOX News studios.

This administration has been a blight on the conscience of the world with withdrawal from treaties, lies and distortions to lead the world to war in the Middle East over oil and phantom Weapons of Mass Destruction and a fitting end would be a war crimes trial for Bush, Cheney and Rumsfeld in The Hague. The world is more at risk from terrorism because of the escapades of this rogue state President.

As an American abroad, we went from allies in ’01 and Le Mond claiming on 12 September we are all Americans as the rubble of the WTC smouldered to one of the most reviled countries in the world.

When one live in a glass house with closed borders, FOX News and CNN as one’s only source of info, it is only through an incident like September 11 that most even hear of a world outside the US borders. We live and work in global economies and being one of the only 18% of Americans who even bother to have a passport, it is nice to see the world from outside our borders and be a part of the global community this administration thumbs its nose at. When one lives abroad, you can really see how much tunnel vision there is in the USA and how insecure the homeland really is. No matter how big the wall around it, the world will find its way there, in time.

Every empire experienced it during its decline.
